We use Ubiquiti's UniFi platform exclusively for networking and cameras because it's the best system available at the price point — and because we know it inside out. Every install is documented, labelled, and left in a state you can hand to any technician down the track.
An established trade business in the Illawarra was running on an ageing managed network with poor segmentation and unreliable connectivity. The site already had a handful of existing Uniview IP cameras recording to a Uniview NVR with basic remote viewing via the manufacturer's app, but no integration into the wider network or a unified system. The business needed a complete infrastructure uplift — new cabling, a proper managed network, and a unified CCTV system — while making full use of the existing cameras rather than replacing hardware that still worked well.
The network was designed with proper VLAN segmentation: a dedicated IoT/camera VLAN isolates the CCTV system from business traffic, a guest Wi-Fi network keeps visitor devices sandboxed, and the main LAN carries staff workstations and point-of-sale. Every port is labelled and the full network is documented for any future technician.
The cutover from the old managed provider was handled in stages to avoid downtime. Cabling was run first, the new rack commissioned and tested offline, then a same-day migration was performed — new gateway live, old provider equipment decommissioned, staff devices moved across and confirmed working before end of business.
The result is a fully documented, locally managed network and camera system that the business owns outright — no ongoing managed-service fees, unified remote viewing from any device, AI smart detection on the native UniFi cameras, and the 5-year OG Guarantee covering all workmanship on the install. It's also proof that upgrading doesn't mean starting from scratch — existing cameras were brought into the new system rather than binned.
